The full set I would buy for a table of grown-ups.

The Chen is the one I would start with for most kitchens. The whole nook comes as one set, table and benches, so you are not hunting for a table to match a bench you bought somewhere else.

Both corners of the L lift up for storage. The things that pile up on a kitchen table finally have somewhere to go.

Its weight rating is the highest of the six, 1,200 pounds for the set and 600 on the corner bench alone. For a family of adults, I would buy it over the less expensive sets, which are rated far lower.

Save the small bench for the kids. It is 13 inches deep, and a comfortable dining bench is 18 to 22 inches, so it suits a quick breakfast better than a long dinner.

The Deral gets you the table, both benches and the corner storage for under $300.

It is rated for 300 pounds, so I would buy it for two adults, or a family with young kids to put on the shallow loose bench. If four grown-ups will sit down together, spend more on the Chen.

Padded seats and a back to lean on, if you like to linger at the table.

Pay the extra for the Bagwell if you like to sit back and stay at the table. Of the four full sets, it is the one with padded seats, and the corner seating has a solid back to lean on.

It costs the most of the six, and nothing lifts up for storage. I would still choose it over the Chen if comfort matters more to you than storage.

The back is only on the corner seating. Whoever takes the loose bench sits without one.

An L-shaped storage bench for the table you already have.

If you already have a table you like, buy the Eslick instead of a set. It is an L-shaped bench in solid pine, and both sides lift up for storage on soft-close hinges.

Each side of the L runs 62.4 inches from the back corner, so measure both walls out from the corner first.

If you like to lean back after a meal, skip it and get the Chen or the Bagwell, which have backs.

A full set with storage in both benches, for a nook the kids use most.

For storage in both benches and a full set under $400, look at the Lief. The corner bench and the small bench both lift up, and the table is a little narrower than the rest.

I would buy it for a nook where the kids eat breakfast and do homework. Its 251.3-pound rating is the lowest here, which is not much for a table of grown-ups.

How to Choose a Breakfast Nook Set

Measure first, then pick the set.

Breakfast Nook Seating Capacity

A corner bench only seats people along two sides of the table, so count your seats from the length of the benches. If you need one more, pull a chair up to the open side.

Breakfast Nook Bench Length Per Person

Measure the bench, give each adult 24 inches for a squeeze and 30 to sit comfortably, then take one seat off where the two benches meet. The corner seat is cramped, and it is the hardest one to get out of.

On the Chen, the Deral and the Bagwell, the specs leave out the corner bench’s length. Look for it in the listing’s diagram photos or dimensions PDF and check it against your walls. Then count the seats.

Breakfast Nook Table Base and Knee Room

Each person needs a clear space under the table 24 inches wide and 18 inches deep for their knees.

Look at where the legs are. A leg at each corner lands in that space for whoever sits at the end of a bench. I would rather have a trestle or a pedestal base under a nook table, like the trestles on the Chen and the Deral.

What Height Should a Breakfast Nook Seat Be?

Between 17 and 19 inches from the floor to the top of the seat, the height of a dining chair. All six sets here are fine on seat height.

If you add a cushion to a wooden bench, keep it thin. A thick one puts you too high for the table, and one to two inches of firm padding is plenty.

Breakfast Nook Bench Back Height and Recline

If you want a back, get the Chen or the Bagwell. The Eslick and the Selby have none.

A good nook back comes up at least 16 inches above the seat and leans back slightly. That small lean adds a lot of comfort over a long breakfast.

Ask Wayfair for the back height if the listing photos do not make it clear.

Getting Out of a Corner Breakfast Nook

Whoever sits in the corner is stuck until someone else gets up. Give that seat to whoever finishes last, and plan a second way out that does not mean crawling under the table.

A table light enough to slide toward you does the job. With a loose bench on the open side, you can pull the bench back too.

Will a Breakfast Nook Fit an Out-of-Square Corner?

If your corner is a little off square, or the baseboard is thick, an L-shaped bench can stand off one wall and leave a gap behind it. Check your corner before you order.

A two-piece bench like the Eslick is the easiest to fit, because you can nudge each side on its own.
