What Is the Best Shape for a Breakfast Nook Bench?
One wall takes a straight bench. Dimensions.com puts a typical bench at 42 to 60 inches long, and 42 to 50 inches seats two. Plan 24 inches of table edge for each person, the figure from the NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association).
A corner takes an L. The Eslick is two benches that meet in the corner and run 62.4 inches along each wall. The Efrayim is one L-shaped piece, 63 by 63 inches, so both walls need at least 63 inches clear.
A corner with no table yet takes a three-piece set. The Red Barrel Studio set ships a corner bench, a straight bench and a 39.3 by 23.5 inch table.
Check the open side. Leave 32 inches from the table edge to the wall or counter behind the chairs if nobody walks through. Make it 36 inches if people edge past, and 44 inches if they walk past.
Measure this gap first.
Lift-Top or Drawers: How Nook Bench Storage Opens

It is solid pine, joined with cam bolts (the round metal locks that pull a bolt tight in flat-pack furniture). The finish is distressed on purpose, with scoring and rub-through.
Four of the first 10 one-star reviews say it arrived damaged, with split or cracked pieces or a damaged box and panel. Open both boxes and check every piece on delivery day.

What Did Not Make the Cut
These nine missed, by reason:
- No storage on the listing: the George Oliver Nalaya banquette, the Lark Manor Ehrhart corner bench and the Berna three-piece set.
- A higher 1 and 2 star share for the same storage: the Lark Manor Heartlynn set has the same corner-seat storage as the Red Barrel Studio set, with 9.3 percent low reviews against 1.5. The Yinuo set, at 20 of 150 or 13.3 percent, says “hidden storage” without saying how it opens or which piece holds it.
- More money for less: the Lark Manor Selby is one 45.5 by 16.5 inch storage bench, 18.2 inches high, the size of one Eslick bench. It costs more than both Eslick benches at Target, and 62 of its 980 reviews, 6.3 percent, are one or two stars.
- Under the 3.9 star or 50 review floor: the 63 by 63 inch dining set (21 reviews), the L-shaped storage bench with cushioned seating (15 reviews) and the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) solid pine set (3.0 stars on 1 review).
How to Choose a Breakfast Nook Bench With Storage
- Count seats by table edge. Divide each table edge by 24 inches. Trust that over a listing’s seat count.
- Estimate the inside from the outside. If a listing gives only the outside size, take off about 1 to 1.25 inches each way. That is the difference on one Badger Basket toy box that lists both.
- Subtract the seat height from the table height. Aim for about 12 inches between seat and tabletop (DutchCrafters).
- Run the 1 and 2 star share. Add the one-star and two-star counts from the star bars and divide by the total. The six picks run from 1.5 to 7.2 percent.
