The Best Breakfast Nook Benches With Storage
If your nook has to seat everyone at breakfast and still hide the placemats and the extra napkins, here’s where I’d start.

What’s the best shape for a breakfast nook bench?
Against one wall, a straight bench is all you need, and one that’s 42 to 50 in long seats two. For the least money, I’d go with the Maniscalco.
Need a third seat on that side? The Joddie seats three. If you’ll be in and out of the storage every day, there’s the Adayla, with drawers.
A corner wants an L. Go with the Eslick for solid wood, or the Efrayim for a seat upholstered in gray cotton. Kitchen Corner Benches has more L shapes, with backs and without.

Which breakfast nook bench with storage should you buy?
For a corner, I’d buy the Eslick, out of the storage benches I went through at Wayfair and Target. If your nook isn’t a corner, one of the other five suits it better.

Best for: a table that already sits in a corner, where you want seats on both walls.
Under each lid there’s room for table linens, cookbooks or the holiday decor. The build tests some people’s patience, but for a small kitchen, that’s a lot of hidden storage for one corner.

If the bench is where the crayons, the chargers and the dog leash live, lifting a lid gets old fast. The wicker baskets slide out for the bigger things, and the drawers on top take the small ones.
It arrives fully assembled, owners say, so it’s the one I’d pick if you’d rather skip the build altogether.

Where to buy the Adayla
WayfairViewShould you get a lift-top or drawers?
Go with a lift-top if you want the most room, and drawers if you’ll be reaching in every day.
With a lift-top, the seat is the lid, so whatever’s sitting on it comes off first. Every bench here but the Adayla opens this way, and on the Maniscalco and the Joddie that gets you one long compartment, nearly the length of the bench.
Soft-close hinges are worth having on a lid. They let it come down slowly instead of dropping, which is kinder to fingers, and the Eslick and the Red Barrel Studio set both have them.
Drawers hold less. I’d keep the seasonal things and the spares under a lid, and let the drawers take the stuff you’d hate to dig for.
How much room should you leave around a nook bench?
Leave at least 32 in from the table edge to the wall or counter behind the chairs on the open side. Make it 36 in if someone has to edge past them, and 44 in if it’s a walkway.
That space is easy to forget, since the bench itself sits against the wall.

What is a breakfast nook bench called?
Usually a banquette, which is a long bench with an upholstered seat, often along a wall. Listings also call them corner benches or dining benches. Banquette Bench With Storage has more of them.
How high should a breakfast nook bench be?
Between 18 and 20 in to the top of the seat. Most of these benches land right there.
Are breakfast nooks worth it?
If you have a corner doing nothing, I think so. A bench along the wall is the layout restaurants use to seat the most people, and in a kitchen you get the storage under the seat as a bonus.
