How has the Elevate held up after six years?

It has served me well. This year, after six years as my daily office chair, the gas cylinder under the seat has just started to fail.

For a chair that sells for under $500, I think six years of daily use is a good run.

What does Eurotech’s warranty cover?

Lifetime on every component, and five years on the upholstery and foam. It is written for a normal 40-hour work week and a sitter up to 275 lb.

Read it on Eurotech’s own site before you buy, and ask your seller to confirm it. Some dealer pages print different terms.

What is the Elevate like to sit in?

It feels like a mid-level chair, and for a home office at this price, that is just right. It is not the most comfortable chair out there, but it does its job.

I am happy with how much I can adjust the arms, and I can recline it and put my feet up on the desk when I want to relax. The cushion does get a little firm after a few hours of sitting, but that is why you have a standing desk, right?

You can set the seat depth, the lower-back support, the arms and the tilt to fit you.

Set the seat depth so your thighs are supported without the front edge pressing behind your knees. Then bring the arms to your elbows. They move six ways.

When you lean back, the seat and back tilt together. You can set how hard you have to push, or lock it upright when you want to sit straight and type.

The back is mesh, over a padded fabric seat. Dealers sell it in black, blue or gray, and the Amazon listing is black on a white frame. Mine is navy on white.

How much room does it need in a corner?

Give it a 27-inch square of floor, plus room behind you to roll back. Amazon lists a smaller footprint, so plan around the bigger number.

If your corner is too tight for a rolling chair, look at a perching stool like the Birdi instead.

Looking for the Cade task chair?

OfficeSource has dropped the Cade. The Corner Nook store sold it years ago. If you need a chair today, the Elevate is in stock, and Eurotech puts its warranty in writing.

On Amazon it is listed as the Ergohuman Elevate, in black mesh with a black fabric seat on a white frame. It is sold and shipped by Sofa In The Box, a marketplace seller, rather than by Amazon itself. Check that seller’s return policy before you order.

What are the Elevate’s downsides?

The cylinder on mine has started to fail in its sixth year of daily use. The cushion also gets a little firm after a few hours, so it suits someone who gets up and moves, or stands for part of the day.

The chair alone weighs 68.5 lb, so get a hand carrying the box inside.

The fine print

Dealer copies of the warranty do not all match. One dealer lists a flat five years, and a Canadian dealer prints the weight limit as 250 lb. Go by the copy on Eurotech’s site.

No BIFMA listing. BIFMA is the US office furniture standards body, and Eurotech has no products in its Compliant register. Dealers say the Elevate meets a BIFMA standard but name no standard number, so there is no way to check the claim.

Most of the measurements come from dealers. They quote Eurotech, and the figures disagree a little. One dealer gives the seat height as 18.5 to 21.3 in, and Amazon lists the footprint as 26.77 by 19.68 in. Plan around the larger numbers.
