The Best Thuma Bed Alternatives and Dupes

People love how a Thuma looks, and the price is a lot for a bed frame. These are the beds that come closest, and what each one is like to live with.

By Franco N.·Updated October 3, 2026

The short answer

If the price is what is stopping you, or the bed is for a guest room, get the Nectar Bamboo Platform Bed Frame, under $450 for a queen frame. It has the Thuma’s low look and goes together without tools, for well under half the price of a Thuma Classic.

Which Thuma alternatives are worth buying?

I understand why the Thuma caught on. It is a low wood platform you put together by hand, with nothing fussy about it.

It is also just under $1,200 for a queen frame, before you add a headboard. That is a lot to spend on something your mattress sits on.

I sold contract-grade furniture for years, starting in 2016, and with any lookalike I want to know first what it is made of. Most of these copy the low platform well. Underneath, they are solid wood, bamboo, or a thin face of real wood over plywood.

What each Thuma alternative is made of: Silk and Snow, Avocado City and the FlexiSpot Kana are solid wood, the Nectar is bamboo and the Floyd is wood veneer over plywood. The Thuma Classic is solid rubberwood.

The solid wood frames here carry warranties of 5 years or more. The bamboo frame carries 2 years, and it is the one where the center supports can crack.

Best for a tight budgetNectar Bamboo Platform Bed Frame

The Thuma’s low look and a build with no tools, in bamboo.

Pros

  • Builds in minutes with no tools, and one person can do it
  • Under $450 for a queen frame
  • In stock and ships in a day or two
  • 60 nights to send it back

Cons

  • Bamboo rather than solid wood
  • The supports under the middle can crack
  • A 2-year warranty
  • The headboard wobbles

I would put the Nectar in a guest room or a kid’s room, where you want the Thuma look and the bed sees lighter use.

It slots together with Japanese joinery, with no screws or nails.

The pegs, legs and slats that hold up the center can crack within weeks or months.

For a bed that sees light use, it gets you the look for very little, and you can have it built the evening it arrives.

DreamCloud also sells a bamboo platform frame with the same look at the same price, so you can buy from whichever you prefer.

Where to buy the Silk & Snow Wooden Bed Frame

Silk & Snow, queen with Solid headboard$1,105

Solid hardwood, made in North AmericaAvocado City Bed Frame

A frame that goes together by hand and stays tight.

Pros

  • Solid hardwood, with no veneer or particleboard
  • No tools needed
  • Tight joints. “The Frame is precisely built, leaving no movement in the joints.”
  • Blonde wood or American walnut

Cons

  • Sits lower than the Thuma, with little room underneath
  • A new-wood smell that can take a few weeks to fade
  • Takes a week or two to ship

It suits you if where your bed is made matters as much as how it looks.

It sits low, close to the floor, so there is not much room under it for storage.

You can have it in blonde wood or solid American walnut, and the new-wood smell can take a few days to a few weeks to fade.

Where to buy the Avocado City Bed Frame

Best if you move a lotThe Floyd Bed

A low, clean-lined bed that straps together without tools.

Pros

  • Made in the US
  • No tools, the panels strap together
  • Easy to move. “as someone who moves a lot, I appreciate that it’s lightweight”
  • A 10-year warranty

Cons

  • Wood veneer over plywood
  • A 10 percent restocking fee if you send it back
  • The ratchet straps take some practice

The Floyd makes the most sense if you move every year or two. The panels and supports are held together with ratchet straps, so it goes up without tools. It feels sturdy, and it looks clean and low.

It sits very close to the floor, and the frame can shift a little, with the mattress creeping toward the foot of the bed. If you want storage under it, Floyd’s Lift Kit raises it to make room.

The faces are real birch, walnut or American oak, laid over birch plywood rather than cut from solid wood.

When moving day comes, you undo the straps and it goes with you.

Where to buy the Floyd Bed

Floyd, Full/Queen frame, Birch$1,320

Solid wood with a lifetime warrantyFlexiSpot Kana Bed

Solid rubberwood like the Thuma’s, with room underneath for a drawer.

Pros

  • Solid rubberwood, the wood Thuma uses, or acacia
  • A lifetime warranty and 100 days to send it back
  • Quiet. “The bed frame is stylish and silent.”
  • More room underneath than the Classic, for a drawer or bins

Cons

  • The headboard is sold separately and can wobble
  • The slats are on the thin side
  • A queen mattress can leave a gap at the ends

If two of you sleep in it every night, look at the Kana. It is solid rubberwood built with Japanese joinery, and it is sturdy and quiet once it is up.

It sits a little higher than the Classic, with more room underneath for the underbed drawer FlexiSpot sells to go with it. The legs are notched to fit over a baseboard, so the bed sits tight against the wall.

If you add the headboard, expect it to take patience to fit, and at its top setting it can jiggle. A box spring will not fit, so the mattress goes straight on the slats.

For a little more than the Nectar at full price, you get solid wood, a warranty that covers breakage in the frame and the slats for life, and 100 days to change your mind.

FlexiSpot, queen frame$429.99

Before you build any of these

These beds come in long, heavy boxes, and parts can arrive on different days or with a ding. Open every box and look over each piece before you start, while you can still send it back.

Have a second person for the boxes and the build. When you move a finished bed, lift it rather than drag it.

A few weeks in, check the center legs and the inner legs, and push back anything that has worked loose.

Nectar or Thuma: which bed frame is better?

The Thuma, if you can pay for it. It is solid rubberwood with a lifetime warranty. “Cheaper version of thuma. Not as sturdy, but good value for the price.” If the bed is for a guest room or the budget decides it, the Nectar is fine.

Is FlexiSpot better than Thuma?

If the budget stretches, I would buy the Thuma. The extra money gets you the original design, a frame Thuma says one person can build in about five minutes with no tools, and far more owners behind it. Both are solid rubberwood with a lifetime warranty. A Kana buyer whose partner owns a Thuma found them “of equal quality” in strength and durability. If the price decides it, the Kana gives up very little.

Why is Thuma so expensive?

You are paying for solid wood, a frame that goes together by hand, a lifetime warranty and a free return in the first 30 days, from a company that tries not to run sales.

The wood is solid upcycled rubberwood, and the bed is certified GREENGUARD Gold, which means it gives off almost no chemical fumes in the room you sleep in.

I think the Classic is worth it if you keep furniture for years and take it with you when you move.

A queen frame also costs $200 more than it did in the fall of 2021, so do not expect the price to come down if you wait.

If you are still weighing the Thuma itself, read the Thuma bed review.

What did not make the cut

Birch is a Helix brand, and the Birch Living Madison and the Helix Madison share the same specs on paper and the same price. Both go together easily, but the joints can work loose, so the frame wobbles and squeaks. Neither can take a headboard.

The Zinus Suzanne is a different kind of bed from the Thuma. It is a steel frame with bamboo panels, and it goes together with the tools in the box.

Who it fits

Buy a dupe if you like the Thuma’s low look and the price is what is stopping you. Start with the Nectar, or the Kana if you want solid wood.

Just buy the Thuma if you want the original and the price does not bother you. Read the Thuma bed review first.

Skip all of them if you want a tall bed. These are low platform beds, like the Thuma.

Where to go next

Questions

What is the best Thuma bed dupe?

The Nectar Bamboo Platform Bed Frame, if price decides it. It has the low look and the tool-free build for under $450 for a queen frame. If you want solid wood and a lifetime warranty, look at the FlexiSpot Kana.

Are Thuma beds actually worth it?

Yes, if you want a solid wood bed you will keep for years and take with you when you move. It carries a lifetime warranty and goes together without tools. The Thuma bed review covers which of the three to buy.

Is Silk & Snow better than Thuma?

No, but it comes close. It is solid acacia or rubberwood, and with its wood headboard it costs hundreds less than a Thuma Classic with a wood headboard. The Thuma has the longer warranty and a free return, where Silk & Snow has you pay the return shipping.

Thuma or Floyd: which is better?

For solid wood, the Thuma. The Floyd is wood veneer over plywood and costs more, but it is made in the US and sits much lower, with a Lift Kit if you want room underneath.

Is a Zinus bed a good Thuma dupe?

Not the Suzanne. It is a steel frame with bamboo panels that goes together with tools, so it is a different kind of bed.

Is the DreamCloud bamboo bed frame the same as the Nectar?

Buy whichever you like, because on paper they match. They cost the same and measure within half an inch of each other, and the center supports can crack on both.
