How this site makes money, in plain terms.
The short version
No link on this site pays me anything today. Once the affiliate applications are approved, some links will, and those links will be marked. You pay the same either way. I do not accept payment from brands to be included, and no manufacturer has ever seen a page here before it went live.
What an affiliate link is
A link that carries a code identifying where the click came from. Buy something after following one and the retailer pays me a small percentage of the sale. The price you see is the price you would have seen arriving any other way.
Not every link on this site is an affiliate link. Plenty point at manufacturer spec sheets, dealers with no program at all, or retailers I get nothing from, and I use those whenever they are the better answer for the reader.
Programs this site has applied to
Corner Nook has applied to the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. If the application is approved, some links to Amazon will earn this site a fee.
Amazon requires approved associates to display one exact sentence, “As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.” That wording will appear here the day the application is approved. Until then, no link on this site pays anything.
Where a product sells better somewhere other than Amazon, or does not sell on Amazon at all, I link to whoever actually stocks it. That includes retailers running their own affiliate programs and dealers running none.
What commission does not change
Commission rates vary between retailers and between categories, which creates an obvious incentive to steer people toward whatever pays best. Here is how I handle it.
The recommendation comes first and the link comes after. Products get chosen against fixed rules covering stock, seller, star rating and review count, and those rules are published on the about page so you can check my work.
Every recommendation names a flaw. If a product has no downside listed, I have not looked hard enough.
I tell you when not to buy. There are pages on this site advising readers to purchase a product somewhere other than Amazon, which costs me the commission, because the Amazon listing was a reseller charging over the odds. That will keep happening.
I publish the rejects. Most pages list products I looked at and turned down, with the reason attached.
Prices
You will not find exact prices on this site. They go stale within days, and a stale price is worse than no price. Broad bands only, and check the retailer for the real number.
Questions
Does clicking an affiliate link cost me anything?
No. Same price, same shipping, same returns. The retailer pays the commission out of its own margin.
Do brands pay to appear here?
No. Nobody has ever paid for placement, and no manufacturer has reviewed a page before publication.
How do I avoid the affiliate links entirely?
Search the product name or part number directly at any retailer. Everything here is named specifically enough to find without following a link, which is deliberate.
